Artists Statement

Material, process and form are the key elements in my work. Employing cardboard as a material; often overlooked in everyday life. I subject the material to a variety of processes such as cutting, carving, laminating, constructing and sanding; exploring the materials language. I then apply my established language of cardboard to a found object bringing man and man-made together, my practice plays on this notion, distinguishing a human/object relationship.

Mechanical objects stimulate my imagination; I see their forms as being visually exciting. The combination of my act of making and process incorporates my interaction between the manufactured material and object, suggesting human-like qualities. Through viewing my works I want to suggest a formal familiarity which is distorted through scale, material and process.

By employing various explored making processes on different parts of the object, I demonstrate the soft and hard qualities of material and object, evoking sensitivity. The finished forms transform in to unique objects with a life of their own, resolved through a playful visual language seen emotionally.
