STATEMENT


A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS are a collective whom explores expression of individuality and the 'self' through inter-disciplinary art practice that encompasses the performing arts (live art), cultural history and the social sciences among many other discipines.


A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS are serial collaborators as well as independent thinkers, philosophers and gleaners of experience. As compulsive scribes of happenstance and day-to-day occurrence, A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS fetishises the aesthetic experience of the everyday; raising its banalities to the level of the extraordinary. Here the obscure and the insignificant, the quirky, the simply overlooked and the periphery of life and its serendipitous events are names in the identification parade that are their fascinations.  Indeed, these cohorts are brought to our attention by the collective as if under the spotlight of the microscope and under the rigorous scrutiny of the dissecting table.


A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS are all persistent daydreamers and idealists, each individually focusing their energies and endless curiosity on a wide number of diverse, experimental practices that relate to or involve notions of human expression, and a search for knowledge and experience through the pursuit of the imagination of original ideas and innovation. Indeed, A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS believes in a ‘whole art’ where one discipline is indiscernible from another; where one practice leads into another and is synergised by it. Therefore, A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS utilises engagement of the whole sensory spectrum - smell, taste, sound, touch, sight - within their work. They continue to explore further avenues of research that often resolve in text based projects, performance, installation, drawing, mind mapping, theory, research. Indeed, any combination of these.


Each member of A COMPANY OF ENTHUSIASTS prides themself in being ‘A Jack of all trades and master of as many as possible…’ These many diverse practices meld in synergy, created a singular art practice that intertwines research-based theory with empirical knowledge. Social documentary and philanthropy are intrinsic to their philosophies, thus contextualising their exploration of our historic and contemporary world view, and its heritage, customs and traditions through observation, interaction and much questioning. Musings and cogitations are formalised within a romantic, poetic and oft humorous framework. Acknowledgment is duly given to the public; as engaging community contact, constructive critique and applied practical developments cement both the meaning and contemporaneous nature of their practice with not only the physical, social and political surroundings, but so too, the economic and psychological environment.
