I’m really excited to be posting these images for people like you to see. It has been a long journey for me. After graduating with a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and spending time working as a freelance illustrator, I returned to school earning my MA from Ohio University. At that point teaching art became my job and my own artwork fell to the wayside.
As an illustrator I was able to use my skills while my subjects were selected by my clients. I was often saved the time of coming up with the idea. As I tried to work on my own art while teaching, I found myself having trouble developing an idea or a theme that interested me enough to produce a body of work. That is until now.
In 2003 my wife and I had our first son Ian, followed by Sean two years later. Those two boys have brought focus to all aspects of my life including my artwork. Watching the boys and their friends has given me a host of ideas for paintings. I have always been interested in portraiture and the expressiveness of the kids gives me subjects I feel everyone can relate to.
