My Artist Statement

About me: My name is Lorinda Renteria, I have lived in Safford for 22 years. I am totally permanently disabled and I'm married and have had 5 kids
I'm a self-taught oil painter. I like to paint still life and portraits. I'm increasing my knowledge constantly about oils, and am learning to paint other subjects as well.
Technique:
I paint mostly alla prima or all at once. I do sometimes paint in layers, thinner on the first layer and gradually adding paint making top layers thicker. I use the controversial method of adding varnish to my oils, creating a glossy painting that doesn't need varnishing, and a tougher paint film. I like to listen to Sirius Octane- Hard Rock music when I paint.
I am still currently developing my style and interests and consider my art to be of the Impressionist style. I like to work from photographs because of the constants like stillness and lighting. I scan photos and blow them up on my computer screen to get the finer details.
I also enjoy painting animal and people portraits.
