Artists Statement

Brenda Boardman BA (Hons) Printed Textiles is a artist/designer/maker, teacher and professional practice mentor creating fashion and interiors products through computers, print and stitch. She studied Textiles at Heriot Watt and Loughborough University after completing her City & Guilds in Patchwork & Quilting at Missenden. Brenda exhibits regularly and has been selling her work through galleries and craft shops since 1998. She is also a member and UK representative of the International Surface Design Association, the Embroiderers Guild and the Patchwork & Quilting Guild.

“My current interest in digital textile technology is linked with my work in Constructed Textiles, particularly in combining traditional with contemporary textile techniques – patchwork with computers, embroidery with technology, knitting with high tech fabrics.

The source may be a photograph I have taken, a sketch or a found object – scanned in and manipulated through photoshop, reproduced onto fabric by printing and painting, then manipulated – cutting, stitching, folding, bonding, layering, weaving, and knitting.”
