My research has lead me towards an interest in "secular spirituality".  I am interested in the role art can play, replacing the everyday world of hello magazine and celebrity worship with a more profound experience.  The experience is of course personal, but I am interested in notions of transcendence, disconnection, the uncanny and the sublime.  This manifests itself in luminosity, the relationship bewteen two colours and deep voids achieved through heavy glazing.  But it also lies in the process through which the paintings are made.  It's in process of making or looking rather than in the finished object.
