David Díez (Spain, 1980) has been using the art of drawing during many years, as a way to create and express his likings, without taking it too seriously, but as a hobby. He has been always a self taught artist, learning from books and practice the tricks of drawing. He never attended artistic studies. Actually, he is an industrial worker.
Ballpoint pens, felt-tip pens, graphite and colored pencils were his drawing instruments during many years. Until recent times, only high quality colored and graphite pencils were the instruments that he used to create his drawings, but lately he has begun to exploit the possibilities of ballpoint pens, both in colour and monochrome. The papers that he uses are usually high quality ones. He usually works in DIN A4 formats - 21 x 30 m - and seldom in DIN A3 formats - 30 x 42 cm -.
He dwells in the side of the imaginary art. He doesn't copies real things; he just prefers to explore his inner world. In that world he features diverse elements of the real world - the ones he likes -, intact or modified, and also creates new elements. This means that he usually creates from his own mind, using his memory, his imagination, or reference materials when a doubt is present.
He has created a bunch of detailed pencil artworks for his own private collection. At the moment, he has moved to oil painting art, and he is not longer creating more pencil artwork.
AUTHOR'S STATEMENT ABOUT IMAGINARY ART
Imaginary Art is how I call the art that I like to create, an art that explores beyond the reality, no matter its trascendency or triviality. In my opinion, the imaginary or imaginative art gathers several artistic styles, such as surrealism, fantasy art - this one includes a genre known as science fiction -, symbolism, visionary art, etc... I do not include myself entirely in any of these styles, so I call my style simply Imaginary Art.
My style is figurative and quite detailed, but not exactly realistic. I like to represent my worlds in an ancient style, no matter if these worlds are ancient ones, futuristic ones or undated ones. Because of that I represent in them my favourite materials: old metals, stone and wood. I do not mind about combine ancient and modern things, I choose from each epoch what I like and then combine it in my own way, inventing, creating, modifying... with the purpose of the expression of my ideals. Women, landscapes, ancient architecture, old weapons, ancient objects of any kind are part of my world, the one which is represented in my work.
