As a biologist, I have a deep sense of kinship and respect for all the life with which we share our planet—especially life that is tiny, slow, slimy, or strange. A strong connection with my Jewish heritage also speaks to my sense of a sacred Earth, or “admat kodesh,” meaning holy ground in Hebrew. Woody Guthrie expresses this with the words ""Every place you tread is holy ground, every little inch, every grain of dirt is holy ground." I express the same through collages that layer translucent papers and metallic paints in complex layers.
