Artists Statement

In my landscapes, painting is my response to the effects of light on the landscape, especially late in the day when the light is golden. Long cool shadows, golden edges on backlit trees, the orangey haze that settles on hills and trees late in the day—I love the transient light effects and want to freeze them on canvas—either a hopeless act of denial or a joyful affirmation of celebration, depending on your point of view. Tuscan landscapes are infinitely interesting because of the musical harmonies of the land. My paintings of women are intended to suggest a narrative but it's up to the viewer to decide what that might be.
