Description

This painting is a companion to another , Hosta Hoofin’, in my hosta series of paintings. The whole series came about because I love the graceful, ruffled and varied shapes of this gardening favorite shrub. These two companion hosta paintings share the same color palette; a wonderful, warm yellow-orange predominance. Hosta Hoofers, as well as its companion painting, is an arrangement of hosta leaves created from my imagination. After having done several hosta paintings I decided to sketch these leaves from my imagination without looking at any particular leaves to inspire me. Being familiar with the anatomy of the leaves, I just wanted to create some of my own choosing to fit the design of the painting. Being liberated by the choice of shapes and colors gave me complete freedom to picture them as I choose to portray them. I love the colors and the happy dancing feeling of these hosta dancers, hence the title, Hosta Hoofers. May you experience serenity every time you gaze at these beauties.
