Scallies, depicted here with the name given to the triptychs of mysterious figures found on many gravestones through the roman and pre-roman period in england. Note the symbols of the egg and a blade.
The symbolism and form of mysterious-historical artefacts is re-used in a digestible modern form, and to my mind is thoroughly believable.
This image (and the rest of the series) acts as a visual metaphor for the fragmentation, loss, and absorbtion of beliefs and previously important information into more modern systems. But they are also particulary interesting due to the hand-made approach to their creation, and the fact that each 'drawing' is unique.
