Florence Wang - Profile

Artists Statement

My design career started in college, without me even planning it. Unimpressed by what the mall offered I would hit the local thrift stores to find unique items and fabrics. I would buy "vintage" items that possessed a craftsmanship unparalleled by newer companies. Beautiful fabrics, amazing beads and pendants lept out at me with such potential. With the help of pliers and a sewing machine I found unique items to create my own personal style.

As I received compliments, I started making jewelry for people as gifts. Soon this led to people bringing me jewelry that didn't wear anymore. These piece told stories - of being the necklace for special occasions, of the trip abroad years ago, of a time when popular style was different. But in each case, the stories yearned for a new chapter. Giving each piece a new life gives me a thrill - building new memories on top of old, strengthening their significance.

My pieces are designed specifically for women who know who they are and are confident. The woman who wears one of my accessories wants to stand out in a crowd. Each is a one-of-a-kind piece that makes a statement.

As the jewelry progressed so did my interest in other crafts. I've dabbled in needlework, cross-stitch, knitting, weaving, glass work and clothing design. It's amazing what you can make once you put your mind to it! I now devote 100% of my time to my design pursuits and couldn't be happier. It's such a thrill to do what you want with your time!
