Description

Wine on the Vine III is the third original acrylic painting in a series of wine-themed paintings. The inspiration for all three paintings was to illustrate the theme, Wine on the Vine. Working within the confines of an imposed theme has really challenged my creativity to conceive a concept for paintings from my imagination. It is so rewarding to just dream up an idea to paint. I had a photograph of a cluster of grapes and just decided that they could easily fit inside a wine goblet. Then came the idea to drizzle 3three wine droplets down the outside of the goblet. Then I poured a transparent copolymer resin over the grapes and the goblet to give them a tactile, glass-like appearance. The scene is painted around all four edges of the canvas to add to the three dimensional quality and eliminate the need for a frame. With the cluster of grapes nesting in the glass and the backdrop of the grapeleaves, I think it does say Wine on the Vine.
