Description

The original of this painting was purchased by the Umpqua Valley Winegrowers of Douglas County Oregon to promote the 2006 Annual Greatest of the Grape event. That organization wanted a painting to illustrate the theme of Over 100 Cork Poppin’ Years for the festive gala. I was hoping my creative efforts to illustrate their theme would be rewarded and they were. Reproductions of the original painting were used on postcards and invitations for the event. During the festivities the original painting was auctioned off to the highest bidder among the high rollers. My five goblets or robust red coming together in the air for a toast with corks flying seemed to fit the bill. The lively, festive painting was such a hit that I eventually had a high quality giclee reproduction made of it on canvas. All four edges of the canvas were hand painted to match the rest of the canvas painting so no framing is required. I hand glazed the wine in the goblets to bring the giclee reproduction as close tin colors to the original as possible. Then I added the thick, transparent glass-like resin to the goblets so that they look and feel like real glass. Everyone wants to know how that was accomplished and I’ve heard remarks like, It makes me feel like having a glass of wine. I think Uplifting Spirits fit’s the feeling of the giclee.
