Description

Even though this succulent has spikes I was intrigued by the shapes of it’s unfolding leaves. I saw another opportunity to pour the smooth texture of the leaves with a transparent glass-like medium to give the leaves volume and a super smooth feel. Then I applied thin layers of color glazes. It resembles stained glass. To further contrast the shiny smoothness from the backdrop of the succulent, I applied a granular, sand-like medium to the background. The smooth pattern of the succulent set against the rougher background reminded me of the patterns found in Chantilly Lace. Even among thorns we can find beauty if we look for it.
